A Very Good Year

The best way to start out the New Year is to take a quick look back. It was no doubt a trying year for many small businesses, but it was also a great year for others. What made the difference? I think it was, in many cases, the approach of the business owner. Those who succeeded got creative. We did. We found new customers. We actually added to our staff. We exceeded our previous year’s sales. It wasn’t easy but we did it.

It was also a good year for getting published (OK, I am going to brag a little in case you missed some of my articles).  I was really happy to be able to contribute to Carol Roth’s blog. I offered some of my best travel tips, business regrets and more.

One of my favorite publications is the Washington Post, and in 2012, I was asked to write a variety of commentaries. I had number of parents tell me that they taped my commentary about job seekers to the fridge for a son or daughter to read. As for the most recent one about holiday gifts for employees, several folks said they would like to come and work for me. Sorry, no positions are available right now, but I will keep it in mind.

Finally if you are looking for a little bit more information on small business, the SBA put out a list of the Top Ten blog posts for 2012. Not sure how it happened, but I did not make the list. That’s OK. It just gives me a little something to work for this New Year.

Happy reading.
